I Am a Lazy Photographer!

I have been working (crocheting) a lot since the first of the year but have neglected to photograph many of my completed projects so I will attempt to bring you up to date in a few posts.

Along about the middle of January I thought "if I just made 10 hats a month, by the first of November I would have 100 hats to send to the shelter."  Easy enough, so I started making two hats a day.  When I had the ten finished, I just kept on going and by the 31st of January I had 30 completed.hats.  Since then I have brought that number up to 56.  Feels so good to have a head start on my hats, now just need to keep up with my ten a month commitment.  They are all packed in a tote and ready to go.

After the hat marathon I was ready to start on a new shawl-----enough of the hats for a while but still trying to stand by my New Year's resolution of using more of my stash.

With that in mind I made another Comfort Shawl with Lion Brand Homespun, a simple pattern using just half double crochet.  The next shaw in a dusty lavender yarn was perfect for V. Noel's V Stitch Prayer Shawl.  This is a free pattern on Ravelry and one I like a lot with just about any yarn.

Crazy for Hats

I love hats, well I love making hats and this seems to the time of year that everyone starts to think of cooler weather and wants to pop on a new warm hat.

So while searching the Internet I found this simple pattern that would be a good to use for some of my hats that I make for the shelter. My favorite hat patterns are warm but not bulky, have some texture but don't take a lot of yarn, and easy to crochet.  This hat has all of that-----texture, warm, and easy.

This pattern was posted on crochetville.com shared by Darski and called the Two Thirty Two Hat.  She states that this is hat 232 on her way to making 340. Yikes, 340 hats that is quite a goal!  I could not find any other reference to Darski but you can find the pattern for this hat here.  I have to admit that I loosely followed Darski's pattern, using my favorite basic hat for the crown and her pattern for the rest.  The front post/back post stitches give such great texture.  Give it a try-------it s hat season!

The Minions Have Invaded

Last Friday I got the notion to make a Minion hat, a quick rush to Michael's for some yellow and blue yean and I was off and running.  The body of the hat is fun to make but I have never liked embellishing and sewing on small parts but the eyes didn't take much.  You can find the pattern Here.

Made five hats in varying sizes and Minions but that will complete my attempt to populate my personal Minionville.  Off to try something new, what's on your hook today?

Hats, Hats, and More Hats

I have been on a hat making mission this past week and have cranked out eight nine new hats.  It started as a challenge to find some new hat patterns after using basically the same pattern for years, it was time for a change.

With such an array of patterns on Pinterest and websites it was easy to find just about every hat design imaginable.  One problem, I have never mastered the "in the round chain join."  Mine always come out with a noticeable join at a  slight angle.  So early on I started making my hats in the round with no join.  Works for me.

When browsing Hobby Lobby's yarn section on Monday, they had several skeins of I Love This Yarn, for $2.39 a skein.  I loaded up my cart with nine new colors and this should be enough to finish my hats for the shelter.  When I last counted I had around 60 some hats made already but I would like to have a lot more.  The weatherman predicts a cold and wet winter so lots of people will be grateful for a warm homemade hat.

Remember, yarn is cheaper than therapy, 

Getting a Head Start

Since Hubby's recovery is going well after his bout with pneumonia /surgery, I find that I am anxious to get back to normal.  All my time was spent either at the hospital or by his side during his recovery at home.  Needless to say I never made it into the sewing room.  No quilts, no miniatures, and no new aprons.

                       

But time was not wasted as I got a head start on hats and scarves for my friend, Jane, to take to the shelter next November.

The count of finished projects for the month-------seven scarves, twelve hats, and a Prayer Shawl.
